This year’s PIA Oregon/Idaho EXPO is coming and it’s not an event you’ll want to miss. EXPO happens on May 7 and 8 at Portland’s Red Lion on the River. The PIA Oregon/Idaho annual event has a unique two-day format lets you easily attend one day or both.
You especially do not want to miss the Tuesday, May 8 general session. It is aptly titled Into the Future and offers two exceptional speakers who will explore two issues that are at the forefront of a long list of industry concerns.
The first presentation comes from Safeco Marketing Director Gabe Gonzalez, CIC who looks at millennials as clients and employees. Titled, X,Y, and Z – Can Younger Generations Keep Insurance Alive?, Gonzalez takes a fun look at how younger generations perceive the insurance industry and the challenges it poses to our future success.
When you consider a huge percentage of the Baby Boomers are retiring, these are the people who will be filling those jobs.
In this presentation Gonzalez and the group will discuss how to better understand millennial generation expectations as consumers and — and especially — employees. As employees, the discussion will show how a strong agency or company culture and identity can help integrate millennials into your organization.
The second part of the session looks at vehicles that drive themselves. The session is titled Autonomous Vehicles & Their Impact on the Industry and it’s done by Gary Strannigan who is the Assistant VP of Public Affairs for Liberty Mutual Insurance. Strannigan’s resume includes accident investigation at Boeing and he has become a notable expert on the subject.
We tend to think these vehicles and their impact on society is something too far in the future to even be thinking about but they are here. Recent robot-driven car incidents ended up with the deaths of two people. One auto killed a pedestrian. The second the driver.
The future has definitely arrived.
Self-driving vehicles will have a huge impact on our industry, our businesses and personal lives and we need to have that discussion.
The general session is Tuesday morning May 8th and runs from 8:00 to 11:30 a.m. and finishes up with the PIA Oregon/Idaho annual agent of the year, company person of the year and Blinder’s Award recipient.
Another not-to-be-missed session is a series offered over two days — the 7th and 8th — by Ed Lamont, CIC, CRM, CPIA. His highly successful 4-part series is titled Street Smart Selling: The Beliefs, Strategies and Management ideas of Success Insurance Professionals.
Lamont’s course benefits everyone from producers and CSR's to agency managers and owners. This series is not to be missed by anyone who is looking to improve themselves and their agency.
You also won’t want to miss Oregon’s largest trade show. EXPO offers two opportunities for agents to connect with company representatives and vice versa. They are the trade show reception Monday the 7th from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Tuesday, May 8th from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
